It can seem natural to worry. When faced with the unknown, and the ongoing threat of COVID-19, it’s understandable why so many continue to feel isolated, depressed or anxious, or are self medicating to deal with these feelings. But using drugs or alcohol (or sex, or food, or shopping, etc.) only provides temporary relief. There is another way. And therapy can help.
In conjunction with Creative Arts Therapies, I use many evidence based forms of psychotherapy including cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavioral therapy, mindfulness and EFT (emotional freedom tapping) to provide you with the tools you can use in your daily life to manage your symptoms . I will offer encouragement and support to help you identify your strengths , explore your coping skills, and find hope and meaning in life.
Many individuals can experience symptoms associated with painful and traumatic circumstances. Anxiety, fear, and hopelessness are a few emotions that can linger post traumatic events. Through mindfulness, meditation and creative arts therapies I will guide you through the process of grief and healing.
If you or someone you love suffers from addictions, your life can seem unmanageable. Attempts at control can seem futile. I believe there are many different paths to recovery.Together we will find the right path for you to free yourself from the disease of addiction and find peace of mind.
Members of the LGBTQIA+ community are at a disproportionate risk of mental illnesses, including depression, anxiety, addiction, and PTSD. Finding help for issues in relationships, parenting, sexual problems and workplace discrimination can be challenging.
I provide a safe, non-judgmental environment in which you can explore your sexual orientation and/or gender expression, and learn coping skills to manage symptoms of mental ‘unwellness”. Therapy can provide you with the support and encouragement you need in your journey of self acceptance, and help to improve your self esteem that you may thrive and live authentically.
I believe there's more than one path to recovery. Together we will explore different approaches and find the treatment that works best for you. I am passionate about healing through creative arts therapy, and have first hand experience of the transformative powers of expressing and discovering the self through art , writing and music. It is my belief that our souls want us to heal and be whole, and that there is a conspiracy of 'good' in our lives that supports our journey to wellness.
I am a licensed board certified Creative Arts Therapist and a Certified Alcohol and Substance Abuse Counselor. I have Advanced DBT skills and training in CBT and Trauma Informed Care and can provide you with the skills you need to get through whatever life throws at you. Through the use of images you create, art therapy taps into the contents of your unconscious mind . These images represent your inner life, and have personal symbolic meaning to you. Creative art therapy can provide you with a language to express feelings that you have no words for. Examining and processing your art can help you to develop insight , find solutions and is a powerful way to access your authentic self.
